DHEA (pronounced dee-hy-dro-epi-an-dro-ster-own) is a steroid hormone made mainly by the adrenal glands, and in smaller amounts by the brain and gonads (testes/ovaries).
It is often called the "mother hormone" because it's a building block for producing androgens (like testosterone) and estrogens (like estradiol).
